Koppiku, the popular Malaysian coffee startup, has been quickly gaining traction in the Klang Valley, particularly for its unique and convenient coffee-based beverages sold from its pastel green kiosks. Known for its airstream-inspired design, Koppiku has carved out a niche in the fast-paced world of on-the-go refreshments.
In its 14 months of operation, the brand has seen the rising popularity of its Matcha Latte, prompting the launch of a special limited-time matcha series featuring three new creative drinks. This new series comes in response to growing demand from customers seeking more variety in their offerings.
A Commitment to Accessibility and Affordability
Koppiku’s mission to deliver quality drinks at affordable prices remains a cornerstone of its business model. Recently, the company celebrated the launch of its matcha series at a “Matcha Dreams Picnic” held at its first train station kiosk at Raja Chulan Monorail. The kiosk, situated within walking distance of several office buildings, is proving to be a convenient stop for commuters looking for a quick caffeine boost.
Founder and CEO Dr. Rajiv Bhanot emphasized the importance of accessibility in both price and location. “All of our drinks are priced between RM5.00 to RM10.90, which sets us apart in the market,” he shared. Dr. Bhanot recalled his own experiences growing up in Subang, where high-end coffee was often considered a luxury. This desire to make quality coffee accessible to everyone inspired the creation of Koppiku.
As demand for its matcha drinks grew, the brand embraced its role as a drink innovation company. “We want to introduce new beverages based on what our consumers love,” Dr. Bhanot explained, leading to the development of the limited-time matcha series featuring Mango Coconut Matcha Latte, Dirty Matcha, and Ginger Calamansi Matcha.
A Flavorful Experience: The New Matcha Lineup
The three new beverages in Koppiku’s matcha series stand out for their inventive combinations of flavors. The Ginger Calamansi Matcha (RM9.90 for regular, RM11.90 for large), for example, combines the bold flavors of ginger, tangy calamansi, and the earthy notes of matcha. The addition of tonic water adds a refreshing kick, making this drink an intriguing choice for those looking for a break from traditional lattes.
For those with a sweeter palate, the Mango Coconut Matcha Latte (RM9.90 for regular, RM11.90 for large) offers a tropical twist, blending coconut milk with mango fruit and matcha. This drink evokes the taste of mango sticky rice, with the coconut milk balancing out the bitterness of the matcha, creating a creamy and flavorful treat.
Meanwhile, the Dirty Matcha Latte (RM8.50 for regular, RM10.50 for large) caters to coffee lovers with its double shot of espresso, combining the rich bitterness of coffee with the smoothness of matcha. Though Dr. Bhanot admits he’s not a coffee fan, he acknowledges the successful fusion of flavors that keep consumers coming back.
Of course, the Matcha Latte, priced at RM7.50 for regular and RM9.50 for large, remains one of Koppiku’s bestsellers.
Expanding Nationwide
Having opened over 40 outlets in just over a year, Koppiku continues to grow rapidly. By the end of 2024, the brand expects to reach 53 locations, with the exciting news of expanding beyond the Klang Valley. Three new outlets are set to open in Pahang this November, marking the beginning of Koppiku’s expansion across Malaysia.
The company aims to bring specialty coffee to all Malaysians, regardless of their background. “Specialty coffee should be accessible to everyone—from CEOs to university students or housewives finishing up their chores,” Dr. Bhanot explained.
With kiosks in strategic locations like train stations, malls, BHP petrol stations, and universities, Koppiku is well on its way to achieving its goal of making quality, affordable beverages available to the masses.
The limited-time matcha series will be available until November 24, 2024, making now the perfect time to try these exciting new drinks before they’re gone.
