Café Amazon, the coffee chain owned by PTT Oil and Retail Business (PTT OR), is on track to meet its target of opening 300 new stores in 2024, following three consecutive quarters of strong growth.
In the third quarter ending September 30, 2024, Café Amazon opened 69 new stores, bringing its total to 4,749 outlets across 12 countries. So far this year, the chain has added 289 stores, mostly in Thailand.
Café Amazon operates 4,339 outlets in Thailand, with 54% located at PTT OR-owned petrol stations. It remains the largest branded coffee chain in the country, surpassing competitors like Inthanin and PunThai Coffee, which are also linked to Thai petrol stations.
The chain has also expanded internationally, operating 310 stores across 11 markets in East Asia and the Middle East, including locations in China, Japan, Saudi Arabia, and Vietnam.
In August 2024, PTT OR announced plans to introduce Café Amazon in Bangladesh in the fourth quarter, following a master franchise agreement with Bashundhara Group to open 100 stores.
Sales figures from PTT OR show that Café Amazon sold 98 million cups of coffee in the third quarter and 299 million cups so far in 2024, marking an 8% increase over the same period in 2023. The chain is surpassing its target of one million cups sold daily.
In addition to Café Amazon, PTT OR also operates over 120 Pacamera Coffee Roasters and Pearly Tea stores. The company ended its licensing agreement with Texas Chicken in September 2024, closing more than 90 locations.
Overall, PTT OR’s food and beverage segment saw a 1% year-on-year sales growth in the third quarter, reaching THB 4 billion ($116.7 million). However, more than 90% of the company’s total third-quarter revenue of THB 176 billion ($5 billion) came from its petrol station business.
