SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Em Coffee House, a locally-owned café specializing in Vietnamese-American coffee, officially opened its doors in San Diego on Saturday. To mark the occasion, the café gave the first 200 customers a special gift tote bag.
Located at 8945 Mira Mesa Blvd. in the Mesa Shopping Center, Em Coffee House offers a unique blend of modern and rustic décor in its spacious 1,800-square-foot space. The café celebrates the rich traditions of Vietnamese coffee and serves a variety of signature drinks, including espresso-based lattes, affogatos, and cold brew tea. It also features traditional Vietnamese coffee drinks made with the classic phin drip method.
Founder Nick Truong, born in Vietnam and raised in the U.S. since the age of 5, has long had a passion for Vietnamese coffee culture. After visiting Vietnam two years ago, Truong and his wife Li decided to bring the authentic coffee experience to San Diego, where they saw a need for a space that embraced both coffee and the social culture surrounding it.
“Coffee isn’t just a drink; it’s a culture, a vibe, and a lifestyle,” the owners explained. “Each beverage at Em Coffee House is a blend of tradition and innovation, telling a unique story and inspiring customers to savor the premium quality and enjoy the moment.”
Truong is well-known in San Diego’s food and beverage scene, as he also owns several locations of Ding Tea, a popular bubble tea franchise in the area, including spots in Fashion Valley, San Diego State University, and Escondido.
Em Coffee House is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Friday through Sunday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. The café owners are already planning a second location in Kearny Mesa, set to open next year, with further expansion plans in the works.
