Tamara Grubb was on the hunt for office space when she stumbled upon a building in Westport, once home to the popular Ruby Jean’s Juicery. The structure, with its distinctive double-A frame roof, immediately struck her as the perfect location for a coffee shop.
In October, Grubb transformed the space into Triple Crown Coffee + Eats + Events, offering a variety of drinks including espressos, cappuccinos, lattes, cold brews, matcha, milkshakes, smoothies, and more. The café has quickly become a welcoming spot for both coffee lovers and locals alike.
“I’ve bought a lot of coffee in my life, and I like the vibe of coffee shops, so this has been a really cool experience,” Grubb said. In addition to running her nonprofit consulting business from a laptop at one of the shop’s back tables, Grubb enjoys being surrounded by other locally owned businesses in Westport. “They’ve been so welcoming,” she added.
The name Triple Crown reflects several meaningful ideas: the Kansas City Chiefs, the Royals, the Biblical number three symbolizing wholeness, and a sign of excellence. The café’s food menu features New York bagel sandwiches, sausage and gravy roll-ups, breakfast items, cookies, cake pops, Greek yogurt parfaits, fruit cups, and gluten-free pastries. Grubb also makes the cinnamon rolls in-house, while sourcing other baked goods from local bakeries.
Her daughter, Savannah Vazquez, often helps behind the counter and manages the café’s social media.
The building’s more than 50 window panes are adorned with inspirational sayings like “You Matter” and “Be Awesome Today,” aiming to brighten customers’ days.
Triple Crown Coffee is open Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and closed on Sundays.
