A popular spot in the southside of Glasgow has been given a fresh start, following the closure of the beloved Millbrae Hill Cafe late last year. The café’s previous owners had announced their closure just before Christmas, leaving many loyal customers disappointed.
Now, a new coffee shop called Spider Monkey has opened its doors near the Langside Battlefield Monument on Millbrae Road. The trendy café, set to officially launch this weekend, is set to be a haven for coffee enthusiasts.
Gone are the bright aqua tones of the previous establishment, replaced with bold black and vibrant orange accents, reflecting the style of Troon-based coffee roasters who are behind the new venture.
While Spider Monkey won’t be serving brunch, it will specialize in high-quality coffees, featuring unique blends from both the café’s in-house roasters and guest roasters. The team also plans to offer freshly baked goods, including cakes, each day. However, due to allergies, the café is not currently dog-friendly for indoor seating, though dog walkers are welcome to grab takeaway orders. The owners also have plans for outdoor seating in the near future.
In addition to offering exceptional coffee, Spider Monkey aims to build a community around its passion for the beverage. The café is planning a series of free events, such as Latte Art Throwdowns, where customers can get involved and enjoy the creative side of coffee-making. The shop will also sell its own beans and blends and is considering opening a retail space dedicated to coffee equipment.
With its commitment to quality coffee and a fun, community-focused atmosphere, Spider Monkey has the potential to become a standout destination in the southside.
