Hardline Coffee has officially established its presence in Sioux City, Iowa, with the opening of its new roastery and café in the historic Levich Building. After an initial mobile cart and a short-lived brick-and-mortar café, the independent coffee business now occupies 400 square feet inside the Eco Hub, a revitalized space in Sioux City’s Historic Fourth Street District.
The Levich Building, a 120-year-old structure now home to a collective of local businesses, was transformed by owner Sam Dailey in 2021. It was once dark and closed off but has been revamped into a bright, welcoming space. “Her vision was to open up the space and create a radiant, comfortable environment for people to gather,” said Nisa Salmen, founder and owner of Hardline Coffee.
The new roastery features a 1-kilogram Mill City Roasters machine, which produces coffee for the café, wholesale accounts, and online sales. Hardline plans to launch a roasted coffee subscription program soon, along with significant upgrades to the roastery. These improvements come after the space had been vacant for a decade following the departure of an adult bookstore.
The Eco Hub aims to attract eco-conscious businesses, including a vintage clothing and dry bar combo called Winnie’s. Salmen noted the synergy between Hardline’s seasonal, mixology-inspired drinks and Winnie’s non-alcoholic cocktail offerings. “We implement a lot of mixology in the design and preparation of our beverages,” she said. “Our seasonal menu rotates every three months, allowing us to experiment with new flavors.”
In addition to its seasonal drinks, Hardline offers classic café beverages using house-made syrups, along with vegan and gluten-free pastries.
The café also has a strong focus on community, hosting events ranging from local art pop-ups to drag brunches and punk shows. “We’ve always had the goal of placing the shop in our historic district,” said Salmen. “It’s been a joy to see this location come to life. Customers love the space, and that makes us proud to call it home.”
With its blend of high-quality coffee, creative drinks, and commitment to community, Hardline Coffee is becoming a key part of Sioux City’s vibrant downtown scene.
