Fort Coffee hosted its first-ever community Christmas Party, bringing holiday cheer to local families with a special appearance by Santa and the Grinch. The festive event featured a variety of food and treats, fun activities, bouncy houses, and gifts for children, which were handed out by Santa himself.
The event, organized by Fort Coffee Board Trustee Joanna Whitfield, aimed to spread holiday joy and provide gifts to children in need, particularly those at the LeFlore County Crisis Center. Whitfield came up with the idea of hosting a community Christmas celebration where gifts would be given to local children. Upon learning of the children’s needs at the crisis center, she reached out to fellow community members and board members for support.
Thanks to the efforts of Whitfield and a team of volunteers, 12 sponsors were found to provide gifts, one for each child at the crisis center. In addition to the gifts for the children in need, presents were also distributed to all the children who attended the party.
The event was made possible by generous contributions from local individuals and businesses. Mallory Martin Funeral Home in Spiro donated gingerbread house kits, which offered a fun and tasty craft activity for the kids. Bradley Dedmon, Lisa Hays, and Theresa Price also made donations, and Harps Foods provided fresh oranges and apples to be handed out to the children.
“I just got everybody in the community together, and we just decided to do this,” Whitfield said.
