Royer’s Coffee and Pastries, a cozy new café in Duncan, is quickly becoming a favorite spot for locals. Located on North Highway 81, the shop opened in October and offers a welcoming atmosphere along with delicious coffee and homemade treats.
Owner Alexis Royer, 21, says her goal is not only to provide a great cup of coffee and pastries but also to create a space for conversation and new friendships. “I want people to feel like they have a place to come in, sit, relax, and meet others,” Royer said.
Baking has been a passion for Royer since she was a child. She fondly remembers baking cookies, cinnamon rolls, and cakes with her grandmother, Shirley Nunley. “I just fell in love with it,” she said. Her grandmother taught her everything she needed to know about baking, and her cinnamon roll recipe, a family favorite, is still sold at the shop today.
Royer was born at Ft. Sill, where her father served in the military and her mother worked. After spending time in Washington State, the family returned to Oklahoma, and Royer graduated from Central High in 2021. It was during high school that she started taking cake and cookie orders, moving closer to her dream of opening her own bakery.
After attending Cameron University for a year, Royer transferred to the OSU Institute of Technology in Okmulgee, where she earned her Associate’s Degree in Applied Science. Now, her dream has become a reality, and Royer’s Coffee and Pastries is thriving in Stephens County.
“I love the small-town feel,” Royer said. “Everybody knows everybody, and you become friends with new people quickly.”
Since opening, the bakery has become popular for its sugar cookie decorating, quiche, cookies, and muffins. For the holidays, Royer will offer gingerbread cookies and kits for families to decorate together. “Christmas time is going to be very fun in here,” she said.
The coffee shop offers a variety of beverages, including regular drip coffee, lattes, macchiatos, and cold brews. With seasonal flavors like pumpkin, toasted marshmallow, and toffee nut, Royer plans to add peppermint and other festive flavors closer to Christmas. The shop also provides alternative milk options and sugar-free choices for customers.
The support from the community has been overwhelming, according to Royer. “I didn’t realize how big of a support group I had until I opened this place,” she said. “It’s amazing to see so many familiar faces coming in and supporting me.”
Royer’s Coffee and Pastries also features a prayer wall where customers can leave prayer requests. As a faith-based business, Royer wants to create a sense of connection and help those in need. “We say the prayers every day, and hopefully, we’ll see a red heart when they’re answered,” she added.
In addition to providing quality coffee, Royer’s shop partners with Grounds 4 Compassion, a veteran-owned coffee company with a mission to give back. Grounds 4 Compassion is involved in various charitable activities, including serving meals and coffee at church services for the homeless in Oklahoma City. “They’re super sweet people, and I wanted to support a company with such a great cause,” Royer said.
Royer’s Coffee and Pastries is open Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The shop is closed on Sundays and is located at 5410 N. Highway 81 in Duncan, next to Inside Out.
