A historic building at 776 Kingsway in Vancouver has recently undergone a revitalization, giving it a new lease on life. If you’ve driven near Fraser Street in the past few years, you may have noticed the transformation of this unique, vintage-style structure.
Originally designed by architect Swinburne A. Kayll in the late 1940s, the building features Art Deco and Modern influences. Kirsten Reite Architecture (KRA), in collaboration with Bon Constructors, has worked to modernize the space while maintaining its historic charm.
Now, the building is about to enter a new phase as it becomes the second Vancouver location for Analog Coffee, a Calgary-based coffee shop chain.
Analog Coffee has been serving the community since 2011, starting with its first location at the Calgary Farmers Market. The company expanded with a second shop on 17th Ave in Calgary in 2012. In Vancouver, Analog opened its first café in Yaletown in April 2023, taking over a former Blenz Coffee location.
With the new Kingsway location, Analog will have three cafés in British Columbia, including a spot in Kelowna, in addition to several more in Calgary.
The building itself has a rich history, having housed several businesses over the years. It was home to Plimley Auto Distributors in 1949 and later Kiddi’s World Kiddies Furniture. More recently, it housed an appliance recycling store before renovations began in 2017.
While no official opening date has been announced yet for Analog’s Kingsway location, it promises to be another exciting addition to Vancouver’s coffee scene.
