Number 1 Coffee Shop, a community interest company (CIC), is moving to a new location on Croft Street, staying in the heart of the town center. Previously situated at the corner of Bolton Road and Bridge Street, the cafe provides a space for local classes and groups to gather, with a mission to benefit the community rather than private shareholders.
“We still have a lot of work to do in the new building,” said Joanne, the shop’s owner. “We’re far from reaching our Crowdfunder target, and we’re still seeking sponsors and donations. Any additional funding will help us launch our groups and build new partnerships.”
Joanne expressed gratitude for the support already received, highlighting the efforts of volunteers who have come together to assist with the move and renovations. “The help has been heartwarming. We’ve had a lot of people from other organizations reach out, eager to work with us, which is exactly what community is about,” she said.
The shop has received offers of assistance, including a generous deal from a carpet shop in Blackburn, help from a retired kitchen fitter, and a painter and decorator who is volunteering his time to paint the space. Joanne also mentioned that more volunteers are needed, particularly for the ongoing painting work. “If anyone is good with a paintbrush, we’d definitely appreciate their help,” she added.
Joanne is optimistic that the cafe will be ready to open its doors by January 25, just over two weeks away.
