Coffee prices have risen in various towns in Western Uganda, with Arabica beans now selling for sh15,000 per kilogram in Ibanda town and sh14,500 in Igorora town council. This marks an increase from sh14,000 in the first week of December 2024. In Kashangura, Kagongo Division of Ibanda Municipality, Arabica beans are priced at sh14,000, up from sh13,500 last December 3.
Robusta coffee has also seen a price increase. It now trades at sh14,000 per kilogram in Ibanda town and Kashangura, and sh13,800 per kilogram in Igorora, up from sh13,500 earlier. In Nyakatookye trading center in Bisheshe Division, clean coffee beans are being sold for sh13,700.
Coffee dealers and farmer cooperatives attribute the price increases to the availability of high-quality beans and higher volumes that have attracted good buyers. Godwin Musinguzi, a coffee buyer in Igorora, noted that demand for Arabica coffee has been driven by its low availability in the market. The Arabica harvest season is expected to begin next month.
However, the price of robusta is still lower than the projected sh15,000 per kilogram forecasted by industry players at the start of December.
