RoboCafe Brings Robot-Powered Coffee to UAH Campus

by Jessica

A new local café is taking the coffee experience to the next level by having robots handle all the work. The RoboCafe, currently operating as a food truck near the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH), uses robots to make coffee from start to finish.

Founder Vinay Salkineedi believes that robots, powered by AI, can streamline the coffee-making process. The robots learn the steps of making coffee in the same way a human barista would. Salkineedi started RoboCafe with the goal of improving customer service, particularly during busy times.

“I noticed that baristas, especially during rush hours, were making so many coffees that they didn’t even have time to ask customers how their day was going,” Salkineedi explained. “I thought, what if I could reduce the load on baristas? That’s when I began working on optimizing the workflow, and that’s how the idea for a robot-driven café came about.”

Currently, the robot only prepares iced coffee drinks, but the team is working on expanding the menu to include hot coffees in the future.

The RoboCafe food truck is open daily from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. and is located in the parking lot next to Tenders on Wynn Drive.
