WoodWind Coffee Roasters, one of the few coffee shops on the Blue Hill Peninsula, has closed its doors, but owners Penelope Wheeler and Nedra Smith assured customers that the business is not shutting down. The coffee shop is simply relocating, though the new site has yet to be announced.
The original shop, located at 165 Ellsworth Road, opened in October 2023. On Saturday, the owners informed the public that the location would close the following day.
The shop, named after Wheeler’s musical background, sold coffee beans roasted by the family, along with hot coffee drinks, tea, and pastries. However, the owners shared that roasting will not continue until the business has settled into its new location.
In January, a successful fundraising campaign raised over $2,700 to pay off WoodWind’s coffee roasting equipment. Smith mentioned that the funds would help them move forward with roasting in a new location and expand their wholesale options. “We are excited for what’s next as owners of the roaster, thanks to our community supporting us in achieving an early pay off, giving us total autonomy of our business model going forward,” they wrote on Facebook.
While Smith and Wheeler did not comment on their next steps, they expressed optimism about the future.
