Ohio State University is encouraging students to contribute to campus sustainability with a new reusable coffee sleeve program.
According to Debbie Wakefield of university dining services, over 429,400 disposable coffee sleeves were used on campus last year, generating 6,173 pounds of waste. To address this, students can now bring their own reusable sleeves to on-campus cafes or purchase a new Script Ohio sleeve for an additional $5 through GrubHub. The sleeves come in scarlet or white and can be reused for future purchases.
While paper sleeves will remain available for free, Wakefield believes that small changes, like using reusable coffee sleeves, can make a difference in reducing waste.
“This is just an option to try and cut down a little bit on waste,” said university spokesperson Dave Isaacs.
