Downtown Mountain View has a new spot for coffee and tea lovers with the opening of Sana’a Cafe, which specializes in organic Yemeni coffee and traditional Adeni chai.
Founded in 2022 by Bassery Alriashi in San Francisco, Sana’a Cafe now operates eight locations across California, with five more on the way. The Mountain View location soft-opened on Tuesday and will celebrate its grand opening on Friday.
The café serves coffee made from organic Yemeni beans, which are imported from Yemen and roasted in Hayward. They also offer Adeni chai, a flavorful blend of black tea, evaporated milk, cloves, cardamom, cinnamon, and a touch of sugar.
A unique feature of the Mountain View café is its hot Mediterranean food menu, thanks to its location within Mediterranean Grill House, a family-owned restaurant since 2008. This makes it the second café on Castro Street to offer two culinary concepts under one roof, joining Das Bierhauz/Olympus Caffe & Bakery.
Yemeni coffee is one of the oldest coffee varieties, with a rich history dating back to the 15th century. Known for its darker, richer flavor and lower acidity, it offers a distinctive coffee experience.
