A new café has arrived in South Norwood, taking over the space previously occupied by Communitea. Chicory – Artisanal Kitchen & Coffee officially opened its doors yesterday, welcoming customers to experience its blend of Indian, English, and global flavors.
The café offers a diverse menu featuring fresh pastries, specialty coffee, and vegan-friendly options. Despite facing minor challenges with their ordering system on opening day, the team described the launch as a success and thanked visitors for their patience and support.
Chicory’s coffee selection includes classic options such as double espressos (£3.00) and hand-brewed filter coffee (£4). Customers looking for something unique can try the pistachio cream latte (£4.20) or the cardamom hot chocolate (£3.95). Iced versions of several drinks are also available.
The food menu features a variety of flavorful dishes, including vegetable dum biryani (£4.95), chicken dum biryani (£5.95), and coriander chicken. Other offerings include chili fritters (£4.50), fried Maggi noodles (£2.99), and buffalo hot honey chicken wings (£6.99).
For lighter fare, Chicory serves a selection of bagels, sandwiches, paninis, and croissant-based options, with fresh choices available daily. Those with a sweet tooth can indulge in milkcakes in flavors like pistachio & rose, Oreo, and Biscoff (£6.99).
Located at 80 High Street, SE25 6EA, Chicory aims to build on the community spirit left behind by Communitea while expanding its offerings to appeal to a broader audience. The café provides both sit-in and takeaway options and is expected to become a local favorite.
