The Akıncılar melon, celebrated for its distinctive taste, is making waves by being incorporated into Turkish coffee, according to the mayor of the Akıncılar district in Sivas, central Türkiye. Mass production of this innovative coffee blend is now underway.

Mayor Murat Sevin has championed the fusion of the renowned Akıncılar melon with coffee, drawing attention to its unique flavor and aroma.

Celebrating Local Heritage

Sevin emphasized the importance of the Akıncılar melon as a regional hallmark. “For years, our melon has represented our brand,” he said, highlighting its uniqueness compared to other varieties like the Manisa melon. “Our melon is particularly distinguished by its size and flavor, showcased during our traditional Melon Festival for the past 25 years.”

The coffee has already garnered acclaim from visitors at municipal events and social facilities. “The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, and the flavor is truly exceptional,” Sevin added.

A Sustainable Approach

The Akıncılar district boasts fertile soil that yields exceptionally flavorful melons, cultivated naturally without fertilizers. The mayor projects a harvest of around 5,000 tons this year.

“We’ve considered the diversity of coffee options available in Türkiye, such as dibek and menengiç coffee, and thought, ‘Why not melon?’ After experimenting, we initiated mass production. Our goal is to establish this as a brand that benefits our community,” Sevin remarked.

Looking ahead, Sevin invites everyone to experience the upcoming Melon Festival, scheduled for August 23 to 25, promising an opportunity to savor the unique flavors of Akıncılar.
