Student’s £6.75 Starbucks Shock Sparks Online Debate

by Jessica

A student’s disbelief at a £6.75 Starbucks coffee bill has ignited controversy online. Sophie Greenfield, 25, from Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire, was stunned by the cost of her large Crème Brûlée Iced Brown Sugar Oat Shaken Espresso at a Wellingborough Starbucks on July 8. Shocked by the hefty price, she recorded a TikTok video expressing her frustration, which has since gone viral with 93,300 views.

Critics on social media lambasted Greenfield for not checking the price before ordering, while some sympathized with her surprise over the rising coffee costs. Starbucks clarified that the price reflects the largest drink size, with costs varying by location due to local operating expenses.

Greenfield, who has since switched to making coffee at home, argued that Starbucks’ prices are inflated by their brand reputation. Despite the backlash, she remains resolute in her decision to speak out about the high cost.
