In a groundbreaking move, DoorDash and Wing have unveiled a pilot program in collaboration with Eastland shopping center, introducing drone delivery services for coffee and other food items across Melbourne’s eastern suburbs.
This initiative marks a significant advancement in delivery technology, combining Wing’s drone capabilities with DoorDash’s platform. The integration allows coffee vendors to reach customers in designated areas efficiently.
Rebecca Burrows, General Manager of DoorDash Australia, highlighted the advantages of drone deliveries. “This innovative service complements our existing ground delivery options. Drones offer a rapid, efficient way to handle smaller orders, typically under one kilogram, and allows our ground teams to focus on larger, more lucrative deliveries,” Burrows explained.
The new service promises swift delivery of popular items, such as Vegemite on toast, iced coffee, corn chips with salsa, baby food, and even band-aids. Customers can expect their orders within 15 minutes, making it easier to access essentials quickly.
The collaboration is designed to benefit merchants, consumers, and delivery personnel alike. For coffee shops, this means enhanced access to local neighborhoods and the ability to deliver hot beverages swiftly with minimal spillage.
Simon Russi, General Manager of Wing Australia, commented on the partnership’s potential. “Wing has previously focused on direct deliveries to residences and businesses. This collaboration with DoorDash and Eastland is a step toward expanding our technology and making drone delivery a cost-effective and sustainable option for all parties involved.”
The Melbourne delivery zone covers 250,000 potential customers across 26 suburbs, including Ringwood, Bayswater, Blackburn, and Boronia. The system operates entirely on automation, promising a seamless experience for all users.
