BOSTON, MA, September 19, 2024 – Boston-area entrepreneurs Jane Lo and Rob Whitten have launched their groundbreaking fully automated drive-thru concept, p!ng, which promises to transform the coffee industry through cutting-edge technology. The first pilot location is now open at 10 Technology Drive in Lowell, MA, operating Wednesday-Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and Friday-Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Founded by Lo and Whitten, p!ng aims to revolutionize the drive-thru experience, inspired by the frustrations of long lines, particularly when Whitten would wait with his three daughters. Combining expertise in customer service and robotics, the duo designed p!ng to deliver fast, accurate, and convenient coffee service through full automation. “The industry is ready for technology that enhances the customer experience,” said Whitten, co-founder of p!ng.

This veteran-, woman-, and minority-owned startup is committed to eliminating common drive-thru issues such as long waits and human error. The fully autonomous system streamlines the process, making it both fast and precise. Customers place orders through the p!ng app in advance. As they approach the pod, located in a few hundred meters, the system begins crafting their drink to order. Upon arrival, the coffee is fresh and ready at the drive-thru window. The innovative AI also adjusts to the height of each car window, further optimizing the experience.

The p!ng menu offers a range of popular coffee shop staples, including Coffee, Lattes, Teas, Organic Refreshers, and Energy Drinks. Drinks come in one size, with prices starting at $2.95 for a basic hot coffee and $5.50 for an Iced Mocha. Additional customizations such as syrups, cold foam, whipped cream, or chocolate sauce can be added for 25-50 cents. The coffee is locally sourced and made from high-quality beans.

“Our goal is to create a bit of magic in the daily routine, using robotics and AI to deliver a ‘future’ coffee experience,” said Jane Lo, co-founder of p!ng. “We’re addressing customer pain points like order inaccuracy, long waits, and the growing trend of ‘tipflation.'”

Looking ahead, Lo and Whitten plan to expand p!ng throughout the region and establish pods nationwide. They are currently refining the technology at their pilot location in Lowell and are actively seeking investors to support their expansion efforts in the coming years.
