As cooler weather sets in across Japan, Starbucks is preparing to warm up coffee lovers with its rich autumnal beverages. This year, the return of the Chocolate Mousse Latte marks the seasonal transition, now enhanced with the addition of Starbucks’ “Espresso Roast,” known for its caramel-like sweetness and powerful richness.
Described as “a hug from within,” the new latte features fluffy mousse and a fragrant, nutty sweetness that beautifully complements the deep espresso. The chocolate mousse is the standout ingredient, offering a light, airy texture that melts slightly with each sip, enriching the coffee-rich experience. The drink also includes an almond and hazelnut sauce, perfectly capturing the essence of autumn.
Starbucks promises that this beverage will “take you on an autumn coffee journey,” especially when enhanced with customizations recommended by Nobuki Shimoide, the 18th “Coffee Ambassador” and winner of the Ambassador Cup 2023, which featured over 60,000 baristas nationwide.
Shimoide suggests switching to almond milk for an additional 55 yen (US$0.38), which enhances the drink’s nutty flavor and allows the aftertaste of nuts and chocolate to linger on the palate. For those who prefer a more straightforward chocolate experience, adding a free pump of chocolate sauce is also recommended, enriching the sweetness, aroma, and depth of chocolate from the first sip to the last.
Both customizations promise a delicious twist, and customers can look forward to trying the Chocolate Mousse Latte, available at Starbucks locations nationwide from September 30 to October 31, priced starting at 589 yen (US$4.06).
