Stitch Cafe has officially opened its doors on Capitol Hill, offering a vibrant space for crafters and coffee lovers alike. With a selection of yarns sourced from around the globe and fresh brews from Upright Tree Coffee, the cafe aims to be a welcoming haven for anyone seeking a cozy escape.
The cafe’s October artists wall highlights the diverse talents of local creators, featuring works from artists such as our.common.thread, Stitch Tits, and Peach Needle Art Studio.
Owner Sarah Chae, a first-time entrepreneur and LGBTQIA+ fiber artist, shared her vision for the cafe, which is designed to be a communal gathering space for the neighborhood. “I wanted to create the kind of place I’ve been searching for in Seattle,” she said, emphasizing her goal of fostering an inclusive environment for all.
Located in the former Poco Bar and Lounge, Stitch Cafe has undergone a significant transformation, revitalizing the space to accommodate its new mission. Chae’s business partner, Shimon Masaki, owner of Upright Tree Coffee Roasters, manages the cafe’s coffee offerings, ensuring quality brews complement the crafting experience.
It’s important to note that Stitch Cafe is distinct from Stitches, a fabric store on E Pike that celebrated its 20th anniversary earlier this year. For the time being, Stitch Cafe will operate primarily during daytime hours, from 10 AM to 6 PM daily, except Sundays and Mondays. However, Chae is considering extending hours, inspired by models like Seatown Pottery’s 24-hour studio at 19th and Aloha.
As Stitch Cafe settles into its new identity, it invites customers to explore their creativity and contribute to the community by crafting the next pieces to adorn the artists wall.
Stitch Cafe is located at 1408 E Pine and is now open to the public.
