From Cebu to Toronto: Bo’s Coffee Expands Its Global Reach

Bo’s Coffee, a homegrown coffee chain based in the Philippines, is set to make its debut in North America with plans to open its first store in the Greater Toronto Area next year. This expansion follows the company’s successful establishment in the Middle East, where it currently operates 16 outlets in Doha and four in Dubai.

In an interview on October, 2024, CEO Steve Benitez confirmed that the company has signed a memorandum of agreement with local partners in Toronto. He expressed optimism about launching the new branch, stating, “We’re hoping to open next year after finding the right location during our upcoming visit.”

Founded in Cebu in 1996, Bo’s Coffee aims to expand its reach to 10 countries over the next decade. The chain is committed to bringing its Philippine Coffee Origins to international markets, featuring 100 percent single-origin coffee beans sourced from renowned regions such as Sagada, Benguet, Mt. Kitanglad, Mt. Matutum, and Mt. Apo.

Rachel Fallarme, Bo’s Coffee’s senior vice president and chief operating officer, emphasized the company’s dedication to supporting Filipino farmers through fair trade practices. “Our goal is to put Philippine coffee on the global map because we believe our beans are world-class,” she stated.

The brand’s overseas expansion also serves to showcase artisan Filipino products on the international stage. Benitez noted that customers are drawn to Bo’s not only for its homegrown roots but also for the quality and flavors of its coffee, which resonate with both Filipinos and local patrons.

As of the end of 2024, Bo’s Coffee is projected to operate 156 stores, having added 35 new locations by year’s end. Currently, the chain has 138 branches across the Philippines and aims to open an additional 50 branches in 2025, including both company-owned and franchised stores.

Bo’s Coffee is focusing on enhancing its presence in Metro Manila while also targeting expansion in Northern Luzon. Franchising will be pivotal to the company’s growth strategy, with new stores planned in key regions such as Central Visayas and Southern Luzon.

To support its ambitious growth plans, Benitez announced investments in two coffee mills located in Benguet and South Cotabato, designed to strengthen the supply chain and foster community support.

Recently, Benitez was in Cebu to launch the Paskong Pinoy menu, celebrating the holiday season at the flagship Capitol Tribute Store. The chain has revived its popular holiday beverage, the Dark Mocha Macadamia Froccino, and introduced the new Choc Nut Series in collaboration with the iconic Filipino confectionery brand, featuring the Choc Nut Mocha Froccino, Iced Choc Nut Latte, and Hot Choc Nut Latte.
