Kei Concepts, the Southern California hospitality group renowned for its diverse restaurant brands, has unveiled its inaugural coffee-focused venture, Kei Coffee House, located in Westminster.
The newly opened coffee shop aims to merge contemporary coffee trends from the West with deep-rooted traditions from Asia and Southeast Asia. This innovative approach is part of Kei Concepts’ broader mission, which has already seen success with modern interpretations of Asian and Southeast Asian cuisines through popular establishments like Súp Noodle Bar, Vox Kitchen, and Nếp Cafe. Unlike these restaurants, which often emphasize specific regional dishes, Kei Coffee House promises a more expansive menu, drawing inspiration from a variety of Asian coffee traditions.
“This venture is as much about discovery for us as it is for our guests,” said Viet Nguyen, Founder and CEO of Kei Concepts, in a statement regarding the soft opening. “Ultimately, Kei Coffee House is where the East meets the West, bringing a new dimension to the coffee culture in Orange County.”
The coffee program, developed by a team led by Nguyen, Corporate R&D Chef Vu Tran, Corporate Pastry Chef Amanda On, and Assistant Concept Development Manager Kelly Vroom, features a diverse selection of both Arabica and Robusta beans sourced through a partnership with Long Beach-based Common Room Roasters. Beverages are crafted using Mahlkönig grinders and a Slayer espresso machine, alongside a range of teas, blended drinks, and sparkling refreshers.
Monthly signature specials will spotlight beloved Southeast Asian flavors, including coconut, pandan, Thai banana, and sweet potato, complemented by an assortment of fresh pastries baked daily on-site.
Spanning an impressive 4,000 square feet, Kei Coffee House is also designed to serve as a community hub, hosting gatherings, musical performances, and cultural events.
Nguyen emphasized the unique experience offered at Kei Coffee House: “While the U.S. has seen a rise in trendy, well-designed coffee shops, we add our own twist by incorporating aspects of coffee culture found in Asia. This includes a focus on ambiance, service, music, and an overall experience that is more than just about coffee.”
