FairWave Specialty Coffee Collective has expanded its presence in the U.S. with the acquisition of Maryland-based Ceremony Coffee Roasters. This marks the company’s first entry into the mid-Atlantic region.
As part of the deal, Ceremony Coffee brings six retail locations, a roasting operation, cold brew products, and an e-commerce business to FairWave’s growing portfolio.
Ceremony Coffee was founded in 2002 by Vincent Latesta, who opened the first café in Annapolis, Maryland. Latesta will continue to lead the company, focusing on updating systems and expanding operations in Annapolis.
The acquisition is the latest move by FairWave, a Missouri-based company launched in 2020 by the private-equity firm Great Range Capital. The collective’s goal is to support and elevate specialty coffee brands by providing additional resources and expertise. Ceremony Coffee is the first Maryland-based company to join FairWave, which includes brands such as Messenger, The Roasterie, and Spyhouse.
Latesta expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, stating, “The essence of Ceremony will remain the same—warm cafés, friendly baristas, and exceptional coffee—now supported by a stronger system.” He added, “We will start to see the benefits of new resources and expertise in our work, spaces, and culture.”
Isaac Hodges, FairWave Collective’s president of growth, also welcomed the acquisition, saying, “It’s an honor to bring Ceremony Coffee Roasters into the FairWave family. The passion for specialty coffee is evident throughout the company, and we’re excited to grow together.”
This acquisition follows FairWave’s recent purchase of Anodyne Coffee Roasting Company in June 2023, marking its tenth brand acquisition. A month earlier, the company also acquired Folly Coffee Roasters and Philtera Cold Brewed Coffees, both based in Minnesota.
