Two Yorkshire coast businesses have teamed up to create a one-of-a-kind coffee that blends the flavors of locally made whisky and high-quality beans. Three Ridings Coffee, based in Bridlington, has crafted a barrel-aged coffee using beans aged for 20 days in a cask previously used for Filey Bay Flagship whisky from Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery in Hunmanby.
Leo Jarvis, co-founder of Three Ridings Coffee, shared his excitement about the collaboration. “When Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery approached us for the second time about a barrel-aged coffee project, we were thrilled,” he said. “We believe Yorkshire whisky and Yorkshire coffee are the perfect match.”
The collaboration began with the selection of an ex-bourbon cask, labeled ‘1929,’ which had been used to produce the distillery’s flagship single malt whisky. Joe Clark, whisky director at Spirit of Yorkshire, noted the natural fit between the two businesses, saying, “Their passion for quality beans and meticulous roasting techniques complement our commitment to quality and taste.”
The cask aging process brought a unique twist to the coffee, with the citrusy, sweet notes of Filey Bay Flagship whisky blending beautifully with the vibrant flavors of Malawian coffee beans. After 20 days of aging, the result is a coffee with a subtle whisky finish, offering hints of caramel and chocolate.
The Filey Bay x Three Ridings Barrel Aged Coffee is available in 190g bottles of whole beans or ground coffee for £14.95.
Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery is known for its field-to-bottle production, using 100% homegrown barley to create its single malt whisky, which is now available throughout the UK and in expanding export markets.
