MT. MORRIS, MI – Biggby Coffee has officially opened its doors in Mt. Morris, located next to Subway and Hungry Howie’s Pizza at 11360 N. Saginaw St.
Owner Mike Cummings, who also owns the adjacent Subway store, invited several local leaders to attend the event. “I wanted to thank those who helped me secure city approval and supported me throughout the process,” Cummings said. “It’s been a long journey, with many challenges along the way. We had to build a double drive-thru lane behind the building, which took time, but it’s great to see everything come together.”
In celebration of the opening, $1 from every drink sold on the grand opening day was donated to the Old Newsboys of Flint.
Before the grand opening, the store hosted a soft opening that included a friends-and-family day and a free drink promotion.
To make room for Biggby, Cummings reduced the size of the Subway store from 2,000 square feet to 1,000 square feet, leasing out the extra space. “During COVID, we downsized the seating area, and while it was available for lease, I became drawn to Biggby’s brand and their farm-direct initiative. That’s when I decided to open a Biggby here,” he explained.
Cummings, who has been with Subway for 25 years, described opening a Biggby as a new venture. “It’s been a learning experience, but the community’s support has made it all worth it.”
The new Biggby location has already hired 17 employees and is still looking to fill both full-time and part-time positions. Job applications are available online at biggby.com or through the Mt. Morris location’s Facebook page.
The store will operate Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
