A new coffee competition is brewing in Charlotte as Dutch Bros Coffee, a popular West Coast chain, prepares to enter the market, taking on industry giants Starbucks and Dunkin’. The company has submitted a redevelopment plan for a site on Albemarle Road in east Charlotte, marking its first step toward opening a location in the city.
According to a permit sketch plan filed with the city of Charlotte on Tuesday, Dutch Bros plans to build a “quick-serve restaurant and oil change facility” at 5637 Albemarle Road. The site, nearly one acre in size, is located near the former Eastland Mall, currently owned by Pittman Investment Properties. Mecklenburg County property records show the land was previously home to a Wells Fargo drive-thru bank, which closed in February.
