Starbucks is starting the new year with exciting additions to its menu, launching on January 3. Customers can now enjoy the new Cortado, a rich espresso drink, as well as the Brown Sugar Oatmilk Cortado and Single-Origin Ethiopia Whole Bean Coffee. Starbucks is also giving customers more control over their matcha drinks by allowing them to adjust the sweetness level, and some seasonal favorites are making a comeback for a limited time.
New Espresso Drinks and More
Starbucks is celebrating coffee artistry with the launch of the Cortado, a traditional Spanish espresso drink. The Cortado, meaning “to cut” in Spanish, is a small, bold coffee drink where espresso is “cut” with steamed milk for a smooth, balanced flavor. Starbucks’ version uses three ristretto shots of Blonde Espresso, a sweeter and richer coffee created by using less water and a shorter extraction time. The result is a creamy, flavorful drink.
“We wanted to offer customers a new way to experience espresso,” said Ricky Gonzalez, a member of the beverage development team at Starbucks.
The Cortado will join Starbucks’ classic espresso offerings, which include favorites like Caffè Americano, Cappuccino, and Espresso Macchiato. It will be available hot only and in an 8-ounce size.
For a twist on the classic, Starbucks has also added the Brown Sugar Oatmilk Cortado to the menu. This non-dairy option is made with the same three ristretto shots of Blonde Espresso, but with brown sugar syrup and steamed oat milk for a sweet, rich taste. It’s finished with a sprinkle of cinnamon and is also available only hot in an 8-ounce size.
Returning Seasonal Favorites
Starbucks is bringing back some beloved seasonal drinks this winter. The Pistachio Latte combines Signature Espresso and steamed milk with pistachio flavors and a brown-butter topping. It can be ordered hot, iced, or as a Frappuccino® blended beverage.
For fans of cold drinks, the Pistachio Cream Cold Brew is also returning. Made with Starbucks Cold Brew, sweet vanilla syrup, and topped with pistachio cream cold foam and salted brown buttery sprinkles, it’s a smooth and flavorful treat, available for a limited time.
Starbucks has also made it easier to customize the sweetness level of its matcha beverages. The matcha powder is now sweetened with classic syrup, allowing customers to adjust the sweetness by adding more or less syrup when ordering in stores or through the app.
New Coffee and Vegan Option
Starbucks has introduced the Single-Origin Ethiopia Blonde Roast, offering a lighter coffee with bright notes of ginger blossom, tangerine, and sweet dates. This coffee is available as a packaged whole bean and as brewed coffee at Starbucks stores during the winter months.
For customers seeking vegan options, Starbucks has added the Spicy Falafel Pocket to the permanent menu. This tasty snack features smashed falafel, hummus, roasted bell peppers, pickled onions, and a spicy herb sauce wrapped in toasted lavash flatbread.
Limited-Time Pastries and Treats
Pastry lovers can enjoy the return of the Vanilla Bean Custard Danish, filled with velvety vanilla bean custard and baked in golden Danish dough. It’s available for a limited time.
For Valentine’s Day, Starbucks is also bringing back the Valentine Cake Pop, a sweet treat with vanilla cake, buttercream, and red chocolate icing, decorated with a heart design.
Hot Honey Flavor at Starbucks Reserve Locations
Starting January 3, Starbucks Reserve® locations in Chicago, New York City, and Seattle are introducing new hot honey-infused drinks. Customers can enjoy the Hot Honey Cortado, Hot Honey Dirty Chai, and Hot Honey Ginger Spritz. The Hot Honey Espresso Martini is also making a return for a limited time.
