Active Coffee, a new café in Katy, Texas, opened its doors on December 21 with a special event that combined coffee, cycling, and community spirit. Located in a residential neighborhood near Airline and E. Fifth Street, the shop is owned by Christian Reyes, who collaborated with the nearby Active Cycling Shop for the opening. The coffee shop features a beautiful, shaded patio behind its main building.
A Grand Opening with a Cycling Ride
The opening festivities kicked off early on a chilly December morning with a bicycle ride that attracted over 150 cyclists. The event featured Neilson Powless, an internationally recognized cyclist and Olympian, who led the group. He was joined by Mardoqueo Vasquez, a two-time cycling champion from Guatemala, along with other notable athletes.
“We believe this is a fantastic opportunity to highlight the spirit of community and athleticism,” said Reyes in an interview with the Katy Times.
A Family Connection to Athleticism
Athleticism is close to Reyes’ heart. He is the father of Nico Reyes, who made headlines as the youngest child with Down syndrome to complete a triathlon, a remarkable feat achieved during the Katy Triathlon hosted by the Rotary Club of Katy. Nico was present at the grand opening but did not participate in the bike ride due to the weather.
Christian Reyes expressed pride in his son’s achievements and in the opportunity to open a café that reflects their commitment to both athletics and community.
