Salty Pup, a new craft coffee shop, officially opened in Gulfport on December 20, located at 5004 Tangerine Ave S. The shop serves premium coffee roasted in Tampa and bagels shipped in from Brooklyn.
In addition to coffee, Salty Pup offers homemade treats like pop-tarts on Saturdays, cinnamon rolls during the week, and a variety of classic pastries. For those seeking healthier options, the menu includes chickpea salad sandwiches, veggie wraps, and fruit smoothies.
Salty Pup is owned by Jodie Musselman and his husband, Jeff. Together, they run a business that focuses on providing a welcoming customer experience and building partnerships with local and women-owned businesses. Their ingredients come from a diverse range of sources, including a women-owned oatmeal company, Brooklyn bagel bakers, Alabama tea farmers, and Tampa coffee roasters.
Jodie and Jeff’s commitment to inclusivity mirrors their own experience in Gulfport. “St. Pete and Gulfport have this small, big city feel. Everyone in Gulfport has been so kind and welcoming,” Jodie says. The couple, who previously lived in Atlanta, found Gulfport’s slower pace and warm community a perfect match for their new venture.
At Salty Pup, the atmosphere encourages relaxation. The shop’s coastal-inspired design features a bamboo-wrapped ceiling, a wall of greenery, and cozy lounge seating, all blending the outdoors with the indoors.
Both Jodie and Jeff bring extensive professional backgrounds to their business. Jodie’s marketing experience includes working with fashion brands like Ralph Lauren and Brooks Brothers, while Jeff has a background in hospitality and condo management. Together, they combine their skills to create a unique coffee shop experience.
For Jodie and Jeff, Salty Pup is more than just a business—it’s a reflection of their personal journey. “We’ve always sought out locally owned coffee shops with a cool vibe when we travel,” Jodie says. For them, Salty Pup is not just a coffee shop, but a place to call their own and share with the community.
