Kindred Roots Cafe, a popular spot in Alto, opened its doors in December 2023 but will soon close. On January 6, 2025, the owners shared the news with the community through a Facebook post.
The cafe was founded by two restaurant veterans who met while working together at Brick Road Pizza in Grand Rapids. After relocating to Alto, the couple saw a gap in the town’s offerings and decided to open a coffee shop and cafe. The business quickly gained support from locals, but the owners recently announced their decision to close.
In their Facebook post, the owners celebrated the joyful news of expecting their second child. However, they also shared that the building’s owners had made it “too difficult” for them to continue operating in their current location.
The cafe will remain open with regular hours for the rest of January. In February, the owners plan to sell remaining products and furniture from the cafe as they prepare to close.
