A Dixon coffee shop has been brewing success since its opening five years ago.
Coffee Crush, located at 122 N. Peoria Ave. across from Dixon High School, opened its doors on December 20, 2019. The shop was founded by Shelly Brantley, a Dixon native who made a career shift after years in social work. Brantley previously served as the director of the YWCA’s domestic violence and sexual assault program for 14 years and spent six years directing the Shining Star Children’s Advocacy Center in Dixon.
“I reached a point where I was ready for a change,” Brantley shared. “I used to joke with my husband about opening a coffee shop, and finally, he said, ‘Well, do it already.’”
Although Brantley had no prior experience in running a coffee shop, she quickly adapted, learning the ins and outs of the business. Today, Coffee Crush is a thriving community space, supported by a team of 15 baristas who work together to make the shop a welcoming spot for customers.
