The upcoming African Coffee Summit, organized in collaboration with the Inter Africa Coffee Organisation (IACO), will be held from 21 to 22 February 2025 at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre in Dar es Salaam. The summit, under the theme “Unlocking Employment Opportunities for the Youth through Regeneration of the African Coffee Industry,” aims to address the underperformance of the coffee sector across the continent.
Announced by Minister for Agriculture, Hussein Bashe, in Dodoma, the summit will feature a keynote address from President Samia Suluhu Hassan. Heads of state from African coffee-producing countries, as well as ministers of agriculture, senior government officials, and key players from the coffee value chain—including growers, processors, and traders—are expected to participate.
Minister Bashe emphasized that the summit will create a collaborative framework with the African Union, the African Development Bank, and regional financial institutions to develop programs that focus on youth employment and entrepreneurship within the coffee sector.
The summit will explore various areas in the coffee value chain with potential for youth employment in both producing and consuming countries. It will also delve into avenues for securing financing for coffee-related projects, leveraging frameworks like the AU/AfCFTA, the African Development Bank (AfDB), and the African Export-Import Bank.
In addition, the summit will propose establishing funding mechanisms to support youth employment within the coffee industry, presenting an opportunity for long-term growth and sustainability in Africa’s coffee sector.
