Gracelynn Stimson’s entrepreneurial journey to open 1902 Coffee Co. in Airway Heights is a unique story of ambition and adaptability. At just 17 years old, she took the necessary steps to launch the business, from applying for permits to presenting a business plan to her lender. While most young entrepreneurs may face hurdles in such a venture, Stimson’s determination led to her parents initially registering the business name on her behalf, allowing the process to move forward. By the time she turned 18, the business officially transferred to her name.
Although Stimson initially intended to pursue veterinary school, her experiences with the Running Start program in high school led her to question whether college was the right path for her. Having grown up with entrepreneurial parents who owned Stimson Contracting, Stimson was inspired to take the leap into business herself. She worked at various coffee shops, including Starbucks and Blissful Blends in Spokane Valley, to gain experience in the coffee industry.
Her journey wasn’t without its delays, though. Construction on a roundabout at U.S. Highway 2 at Lyons Road slowed down the opening process. Despite this, Stimson’s coffee stand finally opened its doors on October 21, 2024, exactly three years after she applied for her permit. At just 20 years old, Stimson’s story demonstrates resilience and passion for pursuing her own path in business.
