Seattle-based Atomo, a leading producer of beanless coffee, has raised $7.8 million in new funding to drive sales growth and expand its product offerings.
Co-founder and CEO Andy Kleitsch told GeekWire that demand for beanless coffee is increasing, particularly as coffee prices reach record highs. According to The New York Times, wholesale coffee prices are nearing a 50-year peak due to shortages caused by extreme weather and rising global demand.
“Many coffee companies are now exploring ways to integrate beanless coffee into their product lines to maintain high-quality, affordable coffee for consumers,” Kleitsch explained.
2024 was a significant year for the six-year-old food-tech startup. Atomo opened a new 33,547 square-foot roastery south of downtown Seattle, which can produce up to 4 million pounds of beanless coffee annually. The company also operates what it claims is the world’s largest date upcycling facility in California’s Coachella Valley.
