El Tigre Coffee Roasters, an Austin-based coffee shop known for its high-quality beans and cozy atmosphere, is opening a new location in San Antonio’s St. Paul Square in February. The new shop will be situated at 123 Heiman St., in a corner building that once housed Vice Versa Coffee & Music and Lucy’s Bodega.
Since opening in Austin in 2019, El Tigre has gained popularity for its carefully sourced coffee, which includes single-origin roasts from Honduras and Brazil, as well as a unique blend of the two. The shop is also known for offering alternative milks, distinctive flavors like rose and raspberry, and Mexican specialties like hot chocolate. Sustainability, quality, and community are central to the company’s mission, with products thoughtfully sourced to reflect those values.
In Austin, El Tigre operates out of a cozy trailer, providing an intimate space for customers to enjoy their coffee. The new San Antonio location, however, will feature a more spacious setting with an emphasis on light breakfast and lunch options, though the menu remains under wraps for now.
El Tigre’s founder, Tatanka Guerrero, is a Chilean-Texan restaurateur with a background in the culinary arts. He gained recognition for his Marfa-based restaurant, Al Campo, and has since worked on projects in Miami, Los Angeles, and Austin, including the cocktail bar Trona. Guerrero’s Dreamers and Doers Hospitality Group is known for creating chic, artistic spaces that blend moody interior design with relatable elements like graffiti, tattoo art, and desert-inspired decor.
Guerrero expressed excitement about bringing El Tigre to San Antonio. “San Antonio is a special place, and I’m honored to have been welcomed with open arms into this community,” he said in a press release. “We look forward to serving San Antonio residents for years to come and getting to know our new neighbors, including local bakers, pastry chefs, farmers, and producers. We’re excited to source as much as we can locally and have more culinary concepts in the works.”
The San Antonio location will operate daily from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. After a soft opening, the shop will update its official opening date and hours, and customers can check Instagram for the latest updates before visiting.
