A British Columbia-based coffee company is brewing up a new wave of Canadian pride, urging cafés across the country to swap the name “Americano” for “Canadiano.”
Kicking Horse Coffee, based in Invermere, has been serving the renamed beverage at its café since 2008 alongside its commercial roastery. Now, in response to trade tensions with the U.S., the company is calling on more businesses to adopt the term.
“Now, more than ever, we need to stick together and wear our Canadian pride on our (coffee) sleeves,” said Lori Hatcher-Hillier, Kicking Horse’s Chief Marketing Officer, in a press release.
For those unfamiliar, a traditional Americano consists of an espresso shot diluted with hot water, creating a bold yet smooth coffee experience. With the push for a “Canadiano,” Kicking Horse hopes to add a patriotic jolt to Canadians’ coffee culture.
