Coffee lovers in North Texas are about to have a new destination for their caffeine fix. Caribou Coffee is expanding its footprint in the state, with Fort Worth set to host the brand’s first standalone store.
The coffee shop plans to build a new drive-thru-only location at 2816 Basswood Blvd, complete with patio seating, according to a city filing.
Founded in Minnesota in 1992, Caribou Coffee is the second-largest premium coffee chain in the U.S. Known for its handcrafted beverages, the company has built a strong reputation for ethically sourcing its coffee. The beans are certified by the Rainforest Alliance, supporting fair trade practices and environmental sustainability.
Caribou Coffee is owned by JAB Holding Co., an international investment corporation also behind popular brands like Panera Bread and Krispy Kreme Doughnuts. Often compared to Starbucks, Caribou aims to set itself apart by fostering a more community-focused atmosphere in its coffeehouses.
The brand promotes a cozy, welcoming environment, encouraging customers to treat its locations as neighborhood gathering spots rather than quick-stop coffee shops. Its menu includes rich espresso drinks, cold brews, and creative specialty beverages like the Turtle Mocha and Caramel High Rise. In addition to coffee, Caribou offers a range of teas, blended drinks, breakfast items, and baked goods.
With its rustic, lodge-like store designs, Caribou Coffee creates a warm, inviting feel that reflects its roots in the Midwest. The brand’s emphasis on adventure, comfort, and nature further distinguishes it from larger corporate coffee chains.
