England rugby player Ethan Roots took a break from the field to try his hand at being a barista at Nellie’s Coffee Bar in Barnstaple, Devon. The Exeter Chiefs player volunteered at the café, which supports young people transitioning out of the care system.
Nellie’s Coffee Bar is run by Blue Elephant Future Steps CiC, an organization dedicated to offering extra support to young people leaving care. Lucy Squire from Blue Elephant was impressed by Roots’ barista skills, saying she was “shocked” by how well he made coffee.
The coffee shop aims to create positive changes in the lives of young people in the community. Roots’ visit came shortly after the launch of a new residential children’s home in the town, marking the ninth home opened by the company in North Devon.
While serving coffee, Roots also took time to take selfies with fans and sign autographs.
