Despite Arabica coffee prices reaching Rs 600 per kilogram, coffee cultivation in Chikkamagalur has seen a sharp decline. The district, once a hub for Arabica coffee, has experienced a significant drop in yield from existing crops.
Bababudangiri, known as the birthplace of coffee, is where Arabica coffee was first cultivated, renowned for its unique flavor. The district used to grow 70% Arabica and 30% Robusta. However, in the past 15 to 20 years, Arabica cultivation has dwindled, causing concern among local farmers.
