An Ottawa coffee shop has made a bold statement by renaming the popular “Americano” drink to “Canadiano” on its menu, as a protest against U.S. President Donald Trump’s threats of annexation against Canada.
Todd Simpson, the owner of Morning Owl, said the small change was intended to “make light of a serious situation.” He explained the reasoning behind the gesture, saying, “We don’t need any American products right now. It seems like a really good way to say we’re Canadian.”
The idea for the new name came from a friend of Simpson’s, who had seen other businesses take similar actions to express their stance.
