In a historic moment for the coffee world, with prices at an all-time high, two coffee shops from Barcelona have secured spots on the prestigious list of the world’s 100 best coffee shops. Nomad Frutas Selectas, which operates two locations and is preparing to open a third, ranks 25th, while D·Origen Coffee Roasters Barcelona claims 55th place.
The top three spots are held by coffee shops from Australia (Toby’s Estate Coffee Roasters), the United States (Onyx Coffee LAB), and Austria (Gota Coffee Experts).
Nomad Frutas Selectas, located in the Poblenou neighborhood on Pujades Street, is just steps away from the highly anticipated Gegant restaurant, with which it collaborates. The shop is led by Jordi Mestre, with Fran González as his partner. Nomad’s journey began 11 years ago when Mestre opened the first store in Barcelona’s Sert Passage.
The pandemic forced the brand to rethink its business model, scaling back from four locations to two. Now, Nomad is looking forward to opening its third café in the vibrant “yolk of the egg” area of Barcelona this spring. This shift in focus has led Nomad to prioritize the export of its coffee worldwide. The company now ships to numerous countries, building a strong international presence.
Their expertise in roasting has earned them recognition, including a win at the State Roasted Coffee Championship, with plans to compete further in Houston this April.
