Heads of state and government from 25 African coffee-producing countries have pledged to enhance research in coffee value addition, aiming to foster innovation, develop new technologies, and create high-yielding, climate-resilient coffee varieties. This commitment also includes efforts to combat pests and diseases.
The leaders also promised to increase investments in coffee value addition and promote the consumption of coffee within Africa. During the 3rd G25 African Coffee Summit, Tanzania’s Minister for Agriculture, Hussein Bashe, read the Dar es Salaam Declaration. It was announced that by 2035, the goal is for at least 50% of Africa’s coffee production to be roasted and traded either within the continent or internationally.
