Azal Coffee, a café chain known for serving high-quality Yemeni coffee, is set to open its first Milwaukee location in the Harbor District. The new café will be located at Freshwater Plaza, 1318 S. 1st St., a mixed-use building that houses businesses like Momo Mee and Jimmy John’s, with apartments on the upper floors.
The café will offer a wide range of hot and iced coffee and espresso drinks, including classic options like americanos and cappuccinos. Unique lattes will also be available, flavored with ginger, sesame, cardamom, pistachio, and Biscoff.
In addition to traditional coffee beverages, Azal Coffee will serve qishr, a beverage made from coffee husks and warming spices like ginger and cinnamon. Also known as coffee cherry tea, qishr is light, delicate, and caffeine-free.
The menu will also feature a variety of other drinks such as hot chocolate, lemonade, and teas like pomegranate, matcha, and Blue Tea, made with butterfly pea flower. For a sweet treat, customers can enjoy snacks like honeycomb bread, waffles, and mini pancakes.
Azal Coffee celebrates the rich history of Yemeni coffee, which is renowned for its aromatic, complex, and fruity flavor. The beans are dried using a traditional process where the husks remain intact, contributing to their unique taste. Yemen, one of the world’s oldest coffee-growing regions, produces some of the finest coffee beans due to its distinct climate and time-honored cultivation methods.
