Uganda’s coffee exports saw a significant increase of 83.4% in January, compared to the same month last year, thanks to high global prices for the commodity, according to the country’s Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry, and Fisheries (MAAIF).
As Africa’s largest coffee exporter, Uganda shipped 550,341 60-kilogram bags of coffee worth $156.5 million in January. This is 83.4% higher in value compared to the same period in 2024. In terms of volume, January’s exports were up by 14.4% year-over-year.
The surge in global coffee prices has been attributed to dry weather conditions in major coffee-producing countries such as Brazil and Vietnam, which has reduced supply.
