Yunnan Province in southwest China has experienced a dramatic rise in coffee exports, with 32,500 tonnes of coffee shipped out in 2024, a 358% increase compared to the previous year. The coffee was sent to 29 countries and regions, including major markets like the Netherlands, Germany, the United States, and Vietnam, according to Kunming Customs, the capital city’s customs authority.
To support this growth, Kunming Customs has streamlined procedures for inspection, sampling, and quarantine, making it easier for coffee export businesses to operate. These improvements have helped Yunnan’s coffee industry expand its reach on the global market.
In 2023, Yunnan’s coffee cultivation area grew to about 80,000 hectares, producing 146,000 tonnes of raw coffee beans. With over 130 years of coffee cultivation history, Yunnan remains the dominant force in China’s coffee industry, accounting for 98% of the country’s total coffee production.
