Jimmy Butler has turned a coffee experiment into a thriving business with the opening of his first brick-and-mortar Bigface coffee shop in Miami’s Design District. The coffee, which once fueled his time in the NBA bubble, is now available to the public, offering a taste of the past while fulfilling Butler’s dream.
In December, Butler reflected on his experience in the bubble, where “all you had was hoop, hoop and more hoop.” It was during that time he created Bigface, a coffee blend made with sugar that became a personal ritual. “I miss those days sitting around, making coffee and having conversations. Why can’t I do that every day?” Butler recalls thinking after leaving the bubble.
A little over four years later, Butler opened his first coffee shop, offering the same coffee that was once exclusive to the Orlando bubble. “It’s so surreal because this is another thing I said I wanted to do, and I went out and made it happen,” Butler said. “That’s what this story is for me. Man, I had a dream, I worked at it, and then one day, bam, here we are with a coffee shop.”
The Bigface shop officially opened on December 6, with a star-studded launch party attended by high-profile friends like Carmelo Anthony, DJ Khaled, and Paul Pogba. Though the launch was glamorous, Butler is hands-on with the business. Over the years, he’s traveled across South America to sample coffee beans, ensuring quality for both his store and online sales.
The venture has also allowed Butler to connect with others, including a memorable coffee-drinking experience with Brazilian soccer legend Neymar. With Britt Berg, a former executive at Intelligentsia, serving as COO, Bigface is more than just a celebrity project; it’s a serious business venture for Butler, one that has quickly become a personal and professional success.
