For the past six months, East Side residents have watched as the empty storefront at 2900 N. Oakland Ave. transformed into a lively new café. With a stylish service counter, gold-trimmed tables, and a gleaming espresso machine, the once-vacant space has become Haraz Coffee House.
The café, which began its soft opening on Monday, is part of a Michigan-based chain expanding into Milwaukee’s growing Yemeni coffee scene. Local franchisees Madhi Hassan and Hasan Abuasi saw the rising interest in Yemeni coffee and wanted to bring a unique experience to the neighborhood.
With an extensive menu, evening hours, and plenty of seating, Haraz Coffee House is designed to be a welcoming space for everyone—from college students looking for a study spot to families and professionals. “We’re trying to bring back the third place,” Hassan said, explaining that many local cafés close by 5 p.m. or earlier. “If you’re not at school, work, or home, this is your place to hang out.”
The café offers classic coffee drinks like cortados, macchiatos, and mochas, but its signature beverages set it apart. Customers can try a vibrant saffron latte, aromatic adeni tea infused with cardamom, or qishr, a traditional Yemeni drink made from coffee husks instead of beans.
Haraz Coffee House also brings bold flavors to its brewed coffee selection. Options include pour-over and French press, Saudi-style coffee infused with saffron and cardamom, and rich, finely ground Turkish coffee brewed in a traditional cezve.
With its unique menu and welcoming atmosphere, Haraz Coffee House is set to become a go-to spot for coffee lovers in Milwaukee.
