Golden State Warriors guard Jimmy Butler has turned a pandemic-side hustle into a thriving business. In December 2024, he opened BIGFACE, a coffee brand that originated in Miami’s Design District. The idea for the company came about during the COVID-19 pandemic when Butler, along with other NBA players, was in the “bubble” in Orlando.
While isolated in the bubble, Butler experimented with an espresso machine in his hotel room and began selling his coffee creations to his NBA peers for $20 a cup. What started as an experiment quickly evolved into a legitimate business.
“Being in the bubble, all you had was hoop, hoop, and more hoop,” Butler shared. “BIGFACE was just an experiment at the time, some coffee with a bunch of sugar in it. But when we left the bubble, I missed those moments of making coffee and having conversations. Why can’t I do that every day?”
BIGFACE officially opened its doors on December 6, 2024, with a star-studded launch party. Celebrities like former New York Knicks player Carmelo Anthony, DJ Khaled, and soccer star Paul Pogba joined in the celebration.
Butler is deeply involved in the brand, having traveled across South America to handpick the beans that are sold both online and at the shop. During the grand opening, he was frequently seen working behind the counter, interacting with customers, and sharing his passion for coffee.
With the success of BIGFACE, Butler has shown that his talents extend beyond basketball and into the coffee business, bringing his love for coffee and conversation to a new audience.
